How to apply

MPhil in Human-Inspired AI
A nine-month taught programme combining coursework with a supervised research project. Apply through CHIA and name Dr. Umang Bhatt in your application.

PhD in Human-Inspired AI
A four-year research degree. Apply through CHIA and name Dr. Umang Bhatt in your application. Co-supervision with Psychology, Computer Science, Economics, and other departments is possible.

Already at Cambridge, or asking about postdocs
Part III, MEng, and MPhil students elsewhere in the University take projects with us most years, and we take postdoctoral researchers when funding allows. Write to Umang directly rather than applying through a programme.
What we look for
- A background in machine learning, statistics, computer science, or a social science with quantitative training.
- Comfort with empirical work: running studies with people, and reading the results honestly.
- An interest in what AI does outside the benchmark, in the settings where it is actually used.
Funding
Departmental, EPSRC, and college awards are considered automatically when you apply, so there is no separate form. Gates Cambridge is a separate application with an earlier deadline, so check its dates before you start.
